Young Carers
At Wroughton Infant School, we want young carers to be recognised, feel supported and know they have someone to speak to if they need help.
Our Young Carers Policy is available here.
Young Carers are children and young people, up to the age of 18, whose lives are affected by looking after someone. This may be a parent, brother, sister or other family member.
The person they care for may have one or more of the following:
- Physical disability
- Learning disability
- Long-term illness
- Mental health problems
- Substance misuse problem
The care they give maybe physical and /or emotional.
These responsibilities may include:
- Personal care
- Housework
- Lifting
- Shopping
- Giving Medication
Looking after brothers or sisters:
- Cheering them up
- Helping fill in forms
- Reminding them to do things
If you feel your child maybe a Young carer and would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact either of the school offices.
Further information and support can be found here: Swindon Young Carers
Here is a film made by some of Swindon Young Carers highlighting what life is like as a young carer.
